The Full Story+

You know those days when you're tempted to head off into the great outdoors but you're not sure whether you've got enough layers on? You don't want to overdress and risk overheating but neither do you want to catch a chill.

Allow us to introduce the insulated Spark vest - with its Insuloft™-lined, wind resistant panels front and back it's the perfect low-bulk layering piece to augment your clothing system.

This season we've added some subtle but important revisions. We've made it reversible to enhance its versatility – wear it as a top layer with the sporty, reflective detailing showing outwards and it makes a practical and safe gilet.

Alternatively, wear it with the more sophisticated, darker layer showing outwards and it looks great worn with one our smart coats such as a Newtown Mac worn on top.

It's tough, durable and you know you'll stay comfortable behind the Insuloft™ thermal barrier if the temperature drops.

Pack one into your rucksack as back-up in case the temperature drops and you've got all eventualities covered. It's the perfect hill walking companion and great for travel too.

Functional Features
Secure Pockets x1Secure Pockets x1

Pocket science at Rohan is all about precision and detail of design, but most of all, it’s about keeping your most important stuff safe at times when losing keys, passports and wallet is more than just an inconvenience. We use several different methods – whichever is the most appropriate. Some pockets are completely hidden with micro zips, some are touch and close with roll-over tops and some are high quality zips.

Some of our garments have a split personality and are built with two distinct levels of performance. This is accessed simply by turning them inside out. You get two garments in one saving weight and pack space. A typical example of this is where we have designed one side of the garment to protect against windchill and one side to offer warmth.

Our Technologies

With a better warmth to weight ratio than fleece and far better performance when wet than down, Insuloft™ is the most practical and thermally efficient insulator available. It is an advanced synthetic that is tough, lightweight, packable, fast drying and easy to wash.

Durable Water RepellencyDurable Water Repellency

Our durable water resistant finish, which forces water droplets to ‘bead up’ and run off the outside of the jacket, is designed to remain at 80% efficiency – even after 20 washes.

Elemental Protection
Cold - MidCold - Mid

We use man-made technical insulation that offers high levels of thermal efficiency, quick dry times and minimum bulk. We also use the finest goose down for the coldest environments. All materials for cold weather, that carry the warmth icon, are rated Base, Mid, High or Extreme allowing you to select what you need with accuracy.

Fundamental Principles
Lightweight - Weight: 150gLightweight - Weight: 150g

We were the original lightweight revolutionaries. Back in the 1970’s we realised that cutting weight without losing performance meant that you can take less and do more. Everything we make is engineered to achieve this.

Packable - Pack Size: 400mlPackable - Pack Size: 400ml

Low pack size is a benefit whether you’re packing for a day’s walking or for the trip of a lifetime. We continually scrutinise fabric specification and garment construction to minimise the packed size of our clothing. The actual pack size is tested and listed.

Fast Drying - Drying Time: 3 hoursFast Drying - Drying Time: 3 hours

All Rohan clothing is designed to be very fast drying – as much a benefit for unexpected downpours as anything else. It’s easy to wash and often needs no ironing. Almost all garments will dry overnight, meaning you can take less with you. We test every item and list its drying time.

Men's Spark Vest

I bought this for my husband. I'd hoped this was the much thicker down Rohan vest that my son has (not sure they do this any more) so initially I was a bit disappointed. But actually my husband is wearing it a lot and luckily it is coming into summer so I think the weight will be about right. It looks smart as well.

Perfect as an extra layer for almost any occasion. It is tiny when folded up so fits neatly into a small shoulder bag that I use for essentials – as a result it is nearly always with me to be worn fend off evening chills, drafts in restaurants and under a jacket for work.

Insulation without bulk

This is a useful piece of extra gear for walking and cycling. It provides good insulation without being bulky. It will squash down easily to fit in a rucksack. I use it when its chilly on the bike as part of a layering system.
